Private instruction in double bass and orchestral strings — grounded in essential pedagogical skills and techniques and four years performing with the Belmont University Symphony Orchestra.
Will Wirth holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Belmont University's College of Music & Performing Arts, where he studied under faculty mentors Dr Tiffany Freeman and Dr. Julia Reynolds and performed double bass with the Belmont University Symphony Orchestra for four consecutive years.
His training spans music theory, aural skills, composition, and formal pedagogy, meaning he doesn't just know how to play, he knows how to teach. His original framework for instruction was formally presented at Belmont's SPARK Symposium in 2026.
Will has performed alongside Andrea Bocelli in Nashville and recorded at Ocean Way Studios, one of the most respected recording facilities in the country. He brings that level of experience into every lesson.
Most students are told to play "louder" or "softer" and left to guess how. Will's research-backed framework dissolves that guesswork, breaking dynamics into three physical, measurable variables that any student can learn, adjust, and own.
The pressure and mass transferred through the bow arm. The primary driver of a full, resonant sound versus a delicate, airy one.
Bow velocity governs resistance and tone color. Fast bows thin a sound; slow bows build depth, warmth, and projection.
Where bow meets string. Closer to the bridge yields brightness and power; near the fingerboard produces warmth and softness.
"By utilizing different amounts of each variable, students can perform
and describe any dynamic, even ones they have never encountered
before."
Will's primary instrument. Beginner through advanced with a focus on technique, tone production, orchestral repertoire, and audition prep.
Regardless of student background, Will focuses on essential techniques such as posture, bow control, intonation, and quality of sound.
Using Will's three-variable framework, students gain a physical language for the full dynamic range at any skill level.
Targeted prep for youth orchestra and collegiate auditions. Ideal for repertoire selection, mock auditions, and mental readiness.
